Odds and Ends

Just some info on what's going on in the land of Alcatraz

Donnie has been very busy with track season. He scheduled a couple of extra meets this year because he has one young man on his team that has a good shot at the state title in hurdles and he needs all the experience he can get. Two weeks ago Donnie's dad had tumor removed(and the kidney that was attached to it) so he spent several days in Calif. The surgery went very well just as expected but his mom was nervous so he was down there for moral support. Apparently it was pretty funny to talk to him after he woke up from the procedure. He was still heavily sedated, Donnie probably could have confessed to all sorts of things from his childhood and his dad never would have remembered.

Justin had his one and only Jr High track meet last Friday, he came in 3rd in the shot put with a throw of 35 feet. I think I was more excited about that then him, I found the ribbon wadded up in the pocket of his sweat pants. I am also proud of the fact that he has signed up 3 times to go help feed the homeless. We must have done something right somewhere! The yard project he and I have been working on has temporarily stalled due to the freaky weather.

And Me. Today I was signed up to go bowling for charity ( a work thing) but Donnie talked me out of it. Not because he is hard hearted or anything but because I have reoccurring problems with my right shoulder and he felt I would be flirting with disaster. So I stayed home and set about putting together a collage for Justin's basketball coach. I rediscovered something about myself...I can't do collages. In order to do a proper one you have to just grab scissors, glue and go with the flow. I just can't, I have to have things in alignment, you know perfect circles and squares arranged just right. The closest I get to a collage is one of those picture frames that hold multiple pictures. There may be 15 photos there but they are still in neat little boxes. I could never do abstract art. Its funny I am really laid back in all other areas of my life except arts and crafts, I seems to be to tense for that. Oh well, I will just get the coach a nice card instead.

You need me there to help you with the collage! I could help you break out of your compartmental box. Or I could just do it for you while you made cookies. You always made really good sugar cookies. Yum. (I'm hungry and need to make dinner, can you tell?)

That's cool about Justin placing 3rd in shot put. Austin's done the same thing with awards in the past. I've found several of his baseball medals shoved in pockets or at the bottom of his bat bag. Much to his chagrin I drag them out and put them in the family trophy case. (The case isn't really for bragging, I just needed a place to stash all their stuff.)

I hope Donnie's dad has recovered well.

Thanks for the update from the land of Alcatraz!
