Be my Valentine...

I have never considered myself a romantic, sure I like chick flicks but I don't get all dreamy and sappy over things like that. This year a discovered two very important things. One, everybody has a little romantic locked up somewhere inside and two, Valentine's Day is a source of fear and torture for most of our male counterparts.

I grew up with sisters, wonderful ones at that, where every experience was seen through the eyes of a girl thus sort of one sided. Well as the years so quickly rush by and my son grows up I have had a few glimpses into the other side of the universe. This glimpse while long suspected was a fascinating and enlightening process to watch.

To put it simply he has a crush on a girl, he has had a crush on the same girl since 6th grade. If you count total text messages as a sign, she likes him too. This year he decided to do something about it. After about a week of mulling it over he asked me to take him shopping, here is where my little romantic side made it's appearance. An hour and a half of picking things up, putting them down, discussing options, seconded guessing and all sorts of other things we end up with a bear, a card and a small box of chocolates. Whew, that was over, yeah right! We get in the car and bang, " Oh, my gosh what am I doing" the nerves set in. That went on for another hour or so before he accepted his fate wrote her name on the card took it over to school and put it in her locker. Over, no going back, I am not sure if he slept. The entire time he was in agony I was trying not to smile to much or sigh out loud. I asked my husband if this is what all young men go through on Valentine's Day? yes, and apparently this wasn't a very bad case. I apologized for all of us women.

From a female point of view this just validates the power we hold over the male psyche. We must use this power for good and not for evil.

He may never forgive me for putting this in a blog.

That is so sweet. S brought his mom and I potted plants. She was very surprised, I was kind of surprised. (I did send him to the store for some groceries!!!) Let us know what happens!

Sorry it took me so long to comment on your Valentine's post. That is sweet that Justin went to all that work for a girl. Austin acknowledges that they exist but insists that he doesn't have time for them.

Hopefully, he doesn't have that same attitude when he's a 40 year old bachelor!
